Position Overview

The Residential Care Officers are responsible for providing structured care, supervision and developmental support to clients residing in group homes and supported accommodation settings. The role focuses on enhancing clients’ wellbeing, independence, behavioural development and social participation through individualised care planning and structured support programs.

This position requires professional assessment, advocacy, coordination and reporting responsibilities in accordance with NDIS Practice Standards, child protection principles and relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Interviewing clients and families/guardians to assess support needs
  • Assessing client needs relating to care, education, behavioural development and social participation
  • Planning, developing and implementing individualised care and support programs
  • Supporting families and facilitating access to appropriate services and community resources
  • Advocating for clients’ rights, inclusion and access to services
  • Monitoring and reporting on client progress, behavioural changes and identified risks
  • Maintaining detailed case notes, incident reports and compliance documentation
  • Liaising with government agencies, welfare bodies, healthcare providers and community services
  • Coordinating referrals to specialist services (mental health, allied health, education support)
  • Supporting clients with social, emotional and independent living skill development
  • Implementing behaviour support plans in accordance with NDIS requirements
  • Preparing reports and submissions for funding or external agencies where required
  • Ensuring compliance with organisational policies, WHS requirements and safeguarding standards
  • Participating in case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings

Essential Requirements

  • AQF Certificate IV, Diploma or higher qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Mental Health, Disability, Youth Work or related field
  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience in residential care, disability support or community services
  • Demonstrated experience in structured care planning and case documentation
  • Knowledge of NDIS Practice Standards and safeguarding frameworks
  • Ability to assess client needs and implement individualised support programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with vulnerable persons, including children or people with disability
  • Current National Police Clearance
  • Working With Children Check (WA)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Current First Aid & CPR
  • Valid WA Driver’s Licence

Desirable

  • Experience working in residential group homes
  • Experience supporting clients with complex behaviours
  • Knowledge of behaviour support frameworks
  • Experience preparing case reports and funding documentation

Employment Conditions

  • Full-time position
  • Shift work may be required (including weekends and overnight shifts)
  • Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Superannuation in accordance with legislation
